TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming and diving team hosted the RPI Kumpf Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Robison Pool. The Engineers swam strong, finishing second of five teams on the day.
Headlining the top results for the Engineers was sophomore
Shannon Brown, as she collected three first place finishes on the day. Individually, Brown had top finishes in the 200 individual medley, as well as the 100 meter freestyle. Brown, along with
Megan Beaulieu,
Colleen Whittaker, and
Ola Nawrocki also took first place in the 400 medley relay.
Emma Wojnarowski also took a first place finish, putting her top placement in the 1000 meter freestyle, while also scoring a fourth place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Alyssa Cahill and Maddie Erickson were both strong individually, and on their relay squad. The duo, along with Nawrocki and
Gabriela Crother-Collado finished second in the 400 freestyle relay.
Cahaill also scored a second in the 200 backstroke and sixth in the 50 yard freestyle, while Erickson finished third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle.
Rounding out the notable performances was
Ella Simpson in the diving portion, as she collected a fourth place finish in the women's 3 meter dive, and a sixth place finish in the 1 meter dive. Additionally, Ithaca diver Karalyn Pawcio set a new pool record in the women's 3 meter 6 dive event, putting up a score of 314.15 points.
The Engineers return to action next Saturday, January 21 when they hit the pool once again in a home meet in Robison Pool in a dual meet with Skidmore College at 1 p.m.
