Track & Field Competes at Middlebury Classic

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) track & field teams competed in the multi-divisional Middlebury Winter Classic and the Engineers enjoyed success with two victories and a pair of runner-up finishes.  The multi-divisional meets, which had 12 men's squads and 13 in the women's competition, was non team scoring. 

RPI's victories came from James Zeolla in the pole vault and Donovan Myrick in the 200 meters, while the men's 4x200, which included Myrick, and Emma McGuinn in the 60 hurdles were second place finishers. 

Zeolla reached 4.65 meters in the pole vault, which came on his third attempt at that height. The second place finisher reached 4.25 meters. Rensselaer's Joey Hinckley was fourth in the event at 3.80 meters.

Myrick ran the 41-competitor 200 meters in 23.10, which outpaced the runner-up's 23.11. The freshman later ran the lead leg on the second place 4x200 squad which crossed the finish line in 1:32.57. Peter Cavanaugh was second, Kensei Chen was third and Hinckley ran the anchor. The Engineers also had the fourth and fifth place relay teams.

RPI's 4x400 team of Rahul Maharjan, Noah Pray, Domenick Rayleonard, and Sean Shannon finished in third place with a time of 3:36.22.

The women's 4x2 unit of Christine Mallette, McGuinn, Katie Manning, and Caitlin Smith finished third with a time of 1:52.45. Coming in fourth in 1:57.80 was the RPI team of Faydia Thompson, Maeve Murphy, Summer Looney, and Katie Unger

In the 60 hurdles, McGuinn ran a 9.64, which put her behind only a competitor from McGill who ran a 9.28.

The men's 60H saw Bate Egbe, who also ran on the fourth place 4x200 team, finish fourth with a time of 8.94. 

Rensselaer had a pair of top 5 finishes in the men's 500 with Cavanaugh coming in third (1:07.67) and Maharjan placing fifth (1:09.56). Finishing third in the men's 400 was Drew Kerr in a time of 54.41. 

Jana Frattellone had a third place of her own, finishing the long jump with a 4.98, while Siri Walsh was fourth in the triple jump (9.89).
