UTICA, N.Y. -
Emma McGuinn had a win as an individual and on a relay and two others also earned victories to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team to a third place finish at the multi-divisional Utica Blue & Orange Invitational that included 22 schools. Vassar College was first with 94 points, followed by Oneonta State with 86, and RPI with 74.
McGuinn, a freshman, won the 60 Hurdles in 9.28 to outpace the runner-up, who finished in 9.90. She later ran the third leg of the victorious 4x400 relay team that included
Katie Manning,
Summer Looney, and
Maeve Murphy. The foursome won by more than eight seconds with the second place squad crossing in 4:22.19.
Rensselaer's other two wins also came on the track with
Christine Mallette winning the 200 meters in 26.82 and
Olivia Pisacano capturing the 3000 meters in 10:34.08. Mallette, a sophomore, later ran the opening leg of the 4x200, which finished third in 1:53.71.
Caitlin Smith,
Rebecca Itty, and
Faydia Thompson also ran for RPI.Â
Placing second for the Engineers was
Leigh McCaffrey in the 5000 meters with a time of 20:44.62, while
Olivia Reid was third in the mile in 5:27.81.
Also competing on Saturday were
Morgan Lee,
Nia Goddard, and
Jillian Lees at Boston University. Lee ran the 3000 meters in 9:40.99 to finish 37th, nearly breaking the school record in the process, and Goddard registered a time of 10:00.11 in the same event. Goddard was 62nd in the field of 114 racers.
Lees ran the mile and finished in 5:07.99, the fifth fastest mile time in school history. She was 64th of 142 in the event.
