TROY, N.Y. – Graduate student
Gabe Terando scored in the 55
th minute as the lone score of the game as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team defeated the Hobart Statemen by a 1-0 final score at ECAV Stadium Friday evening.

Hobart controlled the action in the first half, outshooting the Engineers 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play. However, the game remained tied 0-0 through the opening frame as both defenses stayed strong.

Then in the 55
th minute,
Kyle Osborne found space on the right side of the field and sent a ball across that found Terando open. The graduate student captain then found the twine inside the right post to give RPI the 1-0 lead.

Despite late pushes from the Statesmen, the Engineers held strong on defense and hung on for the one-goal win on home turf.

Hobart had 14 corner kicks to RPI's two, while both sides had four shots on net in the 90-minute duration.

RPI returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, October 14 at 5 p.m. when they play host to RIT for Reunion and Homecoming Weekend. The Engineers will also celebrate Senior Day at ECAV Stadium.
