Men's Soccer Completes Comeback Win Over RIT

TROY, N.Y. – Trailing 1-0 after the first half, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team scored two goals courtesy of Brady Van Epps and Julio Rodriguez as the Engineers topped the Tigers 2-1 at ECAV Stadium on Saturday. With the win, head coach Adam Clinton earned his 200th career victory as a head coach.

RIT found the twine behind Colin Such in the 22nd minute of play, as a free ball bouncing in the box came down off the back of Joshua Price to the foot of Mauricio Gonzalez. Gonzalez rocketed a shot into the back of the net, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers held the lead through the half, despite the Engineers missing multiple opportunities - including a penalty kick near the end of the first half that was saved by RIT goalkeeper Jason Trapp.

However, RPI finally broke through with back-to-back quick strikes - first from Julio Rodriguez who was open on the left side of the 18 yard box on a cross from Van Epps. Rodriguez sent a shot into the net to tie the game up at 1-1. Van Epps got his opportunity just minutes later, connecting on a re-direction shot on a low cross from Josh Gaudiano that gave RPI the 2-1 lead in the 58th minute.

The Engineers missed another opportunity later in the second half from the penalty kick line at would have given them a two-goal lead, but the Engineers defense held strong and hung on for the win despite a physical final 10 minutes of play.

RPI returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 21 when they head to the North Country to take on Clarkson in Potsdam. Opening kickoff for the matchup with the Golden Knights is set for 2 p.m.
