GENEVA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team was held scoreless through 90 minutes of play Friday afternoon, as they were defeated at William Smith College by a 3-0 final.
The Herons scored first in the fifth minute, as Ava Ruppersberger found the back of the net on a feed from Seneca Blakely-Armitage to give William Smith an early 1-0 lead.
William Smith added a second first half goal via a penalty kick, as Ruth Hotaling converted the opportunity to give the Herons a 2-0 lead.
The third and final goal for the Herons came in the 64
th minute, as Blakely-Armitage and Hotaling teamed up. Blakely-Armitage scored, with Hotaling providing the helper as William Smith took a 3-0 lead. The Herons held on with that score through the final whistle.
William Smith outshot the Engineers 17-7, with a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Megan Wampner made four saves in the first half, while
Sierra Skelding made three in the second half. Kirsten Nelson made four saves for the Herons in just over 75 minutes of work.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, October 14 at 2 p.m. when they face off with RIT on the road in Liberty League action.
