POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team won their third game in a row, taking down the Clarkson Golden Knights on the road by a 2-1 final score. With the win, the Engineers improves to 7-5-2 overall and 4-3 in Liberty League play, while Clarkson falls to 8-5 overall and 4-4 in league play.
RPI wasted no time getting on the board, as
Josh Gaudiano scored the opening goal in the fifth minute, scoring in the upper right corner unassisted to make things 1-0 Engineers.
The Engineers tacked on another score in the 28
th minute, as
Kedy Nana was able to step up and score off a corner kick, giving Gaudiano the assist on the play to make it 2-0 Rensselaer.
Things remained 2-0 in favor of Rensselaer until Clarkson struck late to cut the lead to 2-1. A ball played in from the right side was headed by Eric McKean, as the ball found the back of the net. Despite the late push from the Golden Knights, the Engineers hung on for the win.
RPI returns to action this Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. when they square off with Vassar in their final home game of the season at ECAV Stadium.
