SYRACUSE, N.Y. –The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team had their seven game unbeaten streak to start the season snapped by the Syracuse Orange on Saturday afternoon, as the Engineers fell 3-2 on the road.

Ellie Kaiser opened the scoring, putting RPI up 1-0 as she tossed in the tally from Sophia Jones and Maddy Papineau at the 10:53 mark of the first period. The lead didn't last, as Syracuse evened the score at 11:40 on the clock as Rachel Teslak put one past RPI goaltender Emilie Venne on a feed from Jocelyn Fiala to bring things to 1-1.

Freshman Aylah Cioffi scored before the period was over, scoring with just 27 seconds left on the clock in the opening frame on a feed from Sabrina Beaudoin to put the Engineers ahead 2-1 heading into the second period.

The Orange took over the second period, as Darci Johal and Kate Holmes each scored to jump the Engineers on teh scoreboard to make it 3-2 Syracuse by the end of the middle frame. Alexandria Weiss assisted on the first goal of the second on Johal's power play goal, while Johal assisted on Holmes' strike.

Despite outshooting Syracuse 13-3 in the final period, RPI couldn't break through with a goal to even the score, as they took their first loss of the season.

RPI returns to action next Friday, Oct. 20 when they hit the road to open ECAC Hockey play at Dartmouth. The opening faceoff is slated for 6 p.m.
