TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team was held without a goal for the third straight contest, as they were defeated by the Clarkson Golden Knights by a final score of 2-0 at ECAV Stadium Saturday afternoon.
RPI had a chance to make it 1-0 early on in the 20
th minute, but had a penalty kick saved by Clarkson goalkeeper Molly DiCaprio to keep things scoreless.
It was Clarkson that broke through with the opening goal of the game in the first half, scoring in the 43
rd minute. After a ball was sent in and punched away by RPI goalkeeper
Megan Wampner, Clarkson's Chloe Hodge corralled the ball at the top of the 18 and sent a low line drive past Wampner with traffic in front to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.
The score remained 1-0 until late in the game, as Clarkson collected their cushion in the 88
th minute. After a ball bounced around in the box after a shot rang off the crossbar, Hodge tipped a ball to the left side of the box where Emma Robinson was waiting as she scored to make it 2-0 Golden Knights.
RPI returns to action this Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. when they take on Vassar College on the road.
