POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team scored in the 33
rd minute courtesy of
Veronica Martinez de Pinillos as the Engineers held on for a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Vassar College Brewers on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, RPI moves to 8-4-3 overall on the year, while Vassar falls to 8-4-4 on the year.
Both sides played even throughout the opening two thirds of the first half, with both sides collecting three shots apiece until the 33
rd minute. Senior
Bryanna Swinson found Martinez de Pinillos who finished in the low right corner of the net to give RPI the 1-0 lead.
The Engineers maintained the lead into the second half, as Vassar pumped up the pressure in the final 45 minutes. The Brewers outshot the Engineers 10-2 in the frame, as RPI goalkeeper
Megan Wampner made eight saves on all Vassar's shots on net to earn the shutout.
Brooke Miller had two shots for the Engineers, putting one on net.
Haley Cole also added a shot on net along with Martinez de Pinillos.
RPI returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. for their regular season finale against Ithaca at ECAV Stadium.
