TROY, N.Y. - Despite taking a 2-1 lead early in the second half, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team finished in a 2-2 tie with the Ithaca Bombers on Saturday evening at ECAV Stadium. The Engineers clinch the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Liberty League Championships, and will head to Potsdam to take on the No. 4 seed Clarkson.
Ithaca took an early 1-0 lead as Ally Stanton found the back of the net in the seventh minute, with Ava Detorie getting an assist on the play.Â
The score remained the same as the clock wound down in the first half. Then in the 40th minute,
Bryanna Swinson found
Veronica Martinez de Pinillos as she scored her fifth goal of the season to tie things up at 1-1.
As the second half got underway, it didn't take long for the Engineers to hop ahead courtesy of
Rachel Borra. She scored in the 54th minute, with
Brooke Miller supplying an assist to give RPI the 2-1 lead.
With time in regulation winding down, Ithaca got the equalizer in the 83rd minute off the foot of Jayne Bogle. After corralling the ball up the field just over the halfway line, she dribbled up around a pair of RPI defenders and delivered a left footed shot into the upper right corner of the net over the outstretched hand of RPI goalkeeper Megan Wamper to tie the game up at 2-2. The score stood through the final horn.
