TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team jumped right back in the win column on Tuesday evening, as they defeated the Bard College Raptors by a 4-0 final score at ECAV Stadium. With the win, the Engineers collect their first Liberty League win, moving to 6-1-3 overall and 1-1-1 in league play. Bard falls to 4-4-1 and 0-2-1 in Liberty League action.
The Engineers generated multiple chances early in the game, as Bard goalie Seymone Rosenburg made 13 first half saves. RPI also rang a crossbar and a post through the opening minutes, until they struck in the 34
th minute. After a pass up the left sideline by
Sarah Sedlacek,
Izzy O'Clair ran right by her defender into the 18 yard box and connected with the lower right corner of the net to give RPI the 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes later, freshman
Micaela Ross connected on her first collegiate goal off a corner kick, sending home a shot off a header from a defender for a 2-0 Engineers lead.
In the second half, RPI scored another pair as
Gwen Barnes and
Brooke Miller connected for a goal just minutes in. Miller found Barnes with a cross from the left wing, with Barnes knocking home a volley to make it 3-0 Engineers.
Ross scored her second of the night in the 88
th minute to put the end-cap on the scoring, with
Julia Pelletier sending in a long free kick over the defense for Ross to touch by the goalie. In total, RPI outshot Bard 29-2, with an 17-0 advantage in shots on net.
The Engineers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. when they return to ECAV Stadium to take on Skidmore on Senior Day.
