ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's sccer team broke a three-game losing skid on Wednesday night, as they defeated Bard College 3-1 in Liberty League action. With the win, RPI improves to 4-4-2 overall and 1-2 in league play, while Bard falls to 5-2-2 and 0-2-2 in league play.
RPI jumped on the board first in the 34
th minute, as
Christopher McKinney found the lower left corner of the goal on an unassisted play to put the Engineers up 1-0. That score remained into the halfway point.
The Engineers kept their foot on the gas, with
Julio Rodriguez scoring both second half goals in the 56
th and 70
th minutes. His first goal came courtesy of
Josh Gaudiano, as he found the lower left corner of the net for a 2-0 lead. His third came on a penalty kick, which game RPI the 3-0 cushion.
Bard responded back with their lone goal of the night in the 73
rd minute, as Zach Burmeister found the upper left corner of the net on an assist from Emmett Olson to make the score 3-1.
Goakkeeper Gavin Hersey made four saves in net for the Raptors, while
Colin Such only had to make one stop on the night for the Engineers. The RPI defense only surrendered three shots – two on net – on the game.
The Engineers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 when they head to Saratoga Springs to take on Skidmore at 2 p.m.
