SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior captain
Josh Gaudiano scored a goal in the 41
st minute to cut into an early Skidmore lead, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team couldn't find an equalizer in a 2-1 loss to the Throughbreds on the road Saturday afternoon.
Skidmore opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Colin Goodhines found the back of the net off a cross from Brady Trenchard to make it 1-0 early on. Goodhines contributed on the second and game-winning goal for the Throughbreds in the 35th minute, as he assisted Tobias Catizone to push Skidmore to a 2-0 lead.
Gaudiano then struck just five minutes later for the Engineers, making it a 2-1 score heading into halftime. However despite the one-goal deficit, RPI couldn't get anything to go in the second half despite outshooting Skidmore 10-6 in the final 45 minutes.
RPI returns to action next Friday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m. when they play host to Hobart for Reunion and Homecoming Weekend at ECAV Stadium.
