Women’s Hockey Beaten by No. 6 St. Lawrence

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team lost by multiple goals for the first time this season, falling by a final score of 4-1 to the No. 6 St. Lawrence Saints at Houston Field House Friday night. RPI has lost three straight – all to top 10 ranked opponents as they move to 6-4-3 on the season and 2-3-0 in ECAC Hockey. St. Lawrence improves to 9-1-0 and 3-0-0 in league play.

The Saints started things off in the first period, as Sarah Marchand scored at the 5:05 mark of the period on assists from Mae Batherson and Julia Gosling for a 1-0 St. Lawrence lead. Gosling then scored St. Lawrence's second goal at the 12:42 mark of the second period on the power play as they took a two-goal lead.

RPI brought things back within one on a power play of their own, as a back-post feed from Ellie Kaiser hit the tape of Maddy Papineau for a one-timer to cut the Saints' lead to 2-1 at the 16:26 mark of the second period.

However in the waning seconds of the second, the Saints scored a dagger as Abby Hustler found the back of the net with 19 seconds to play in the period, giving St. Lawrence another two-goal lead, 3-1.

Things stayed even keel through the third period until RPI pulled Amanda Rampado and surrendered their first empty net goal of the season as St. Lawrence took the 4-1 victory. Rampado finished with 21 saves on the game, while Emilie-Sofie Nordstrom collected 22 in the win.

RPI returns to action tomorrow, Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. when they take on No. 5 Clarkson at the Houston Field House in the font end of a doubleheader with the RPI Men's Hockey team.
