Women’s Hockey Closes Homestand in Loss to Clarkson

TROY, N.Y. – Facing their fourth straight top 10 ranked opponent on Saturday afternoon, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team finished their home stand with a 5-1 loss to the No. 4 Clarkson Golden Knights at Houston Field House. RPI falls to 6-5-3 overall and 2-4-0 in league play, while Clarkson improves to 11-0-1 and 4-0-0 in ECAC Hockey.

RPI opened the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead on a Marah Wagner goal on a tip-in out in front of the net. A shot from the blue line by Ellie Kaiser came through traffic and deflected off the stick of Wagner giving RPI the lead. Maddy Papineau also earned an assist on the play.

From that point, Clarkson rattled off five straight goals – including two just nine seconds apart in the first period. Nicole Gosling tied the game at 1-1 at the 18:49 mark, before she assisted on the next one on a goal from Sena Catterall at the 18:58 mark to give Clarkson the lead.

Catterall scored the next two goals for Clarkson to collect a hat trick, with the final one coming on the power play at the 6:01 mark of the third period to push Clarkson's lead to 4-1. Brooke McQuigge collected the final blow at 9:49, with Haley Winn and Anne Cherkowski getting assists. Winn finished the day with three assists.

RPI goaltender Amanda Rampado made 39 saves in the loss, while Clarkson's Michelle Pasiechnyk making 19 saves on the game.

The Engineers return to action next week on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. when they travel to Providence to take on Brown in ECAC Hockey action.
