ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming and diving team took advantage of their first day at the Liberty League Championships on Wednesday, as the Engineers swam themselves to second overall of eight teams at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College.
Highlighting the day for RPI was a first place finish in the 200 individual medley by
Alyssa Cahill, who swam a school record 2:07.27. Cahill also helped the 200 medley relay squad, along with
Ola Nawrocki,
Colleen Whittaker, and
Shannon Brown to a second place finish. The team swam a 1:45.28, which was good enough for an NCAA B Cut qualifying time.
Nawrocki joined Cahill in the 200 IM, finishing seventh while Brown also had a solid individual finish in the 50 freestyle coming in fourth. In the 500 freestyle, Gabriella Crother-Collado (2
nd) and
Emma Wojnarowski (7
th) also came out with solid finishes.
In the diving portion of the day, the Engineers'
Ella Simpson placed sixth in the 3 meter dive, putting up a regional qualifying score of 428.80.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, Thursday, February 16 at 10 a.m. with prelims before finals in the evening.
