ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming and diving team moved back to second place after a strong third day at the Liberty League Championships at the Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium at Ithaca College.
Leading the charge was sophomore
Colleen Whittaker, as she became a repeat champion in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the event in 2:07.86. The top qualifier in the morning prelims, Whittaker held off a late charge by Vassar senior Grace Myers (2:09.22) to win by 1.36 seconds.
Also highlighting the day was a second-place finish from
Ola Nawrocki in the 100 breaststroke, as she btoke her own school record putting up a time of 1:05.77.
Chloe Jepson also competed in the event, finishing fourth.
RPI also saw a third-place finish for
Alyssa Cahill in the 100-yard backstroke, and a fifth-place finish in the same event from
Megan Beaulieu. In the diving portion,
Ella Simpson put up an NCAA Regional qualifying score of 415.30, finshing seventh in the field in the Women's 1 meter dive.
Rounding out the competition day for RPI was a third-place finish from the 800 Freestyle Relay squad of Cahill, Nawrocki,
Shannon Brown, and
Gabriela Crother-Collado.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, February 18 at 10 a.m. for the final day of action at the championships, beginning the day with prelims before finals in the evening.
