MEDFORD, Mass. –
Christine Mallette and
Emma McGuinn both had two runner-up finishes, including as part of the 4x200 relay, to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team at the Tufts University Cupid Challenge. The Engineers were seventh of 13 squads with 41 points. The host Jumbos were first with 151 points and Amherst was second with 132.
Mallette was second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.78, which was just .02 behind Olivia D'Aulerio of Haverford, who kicked out a time of 26.76. McGuinn's individual runner-up came in the 60 Hurdles in a time of 9.04. The freshman, who also finished seventh in the 200, only trailed Eliza Cardwell of Amherst, who crossed the finish line in 8.94.
In the relay, Mallette ran the lead leg, followed by McGuinn,
Katie Manning, and
Caitlin Smith. They ran a 1:48.67, which trailed only Tuft's 1:48.01.
Also on the track,
Olivia Reid had a fourth place finish in the 800 (2:29.14) and
Olivia Pisacano was fifth in the mile (5:16.42).
RPI's top throws performance came from
Hannah Rogers, who was sixth in the shot put with an effort that resulted in 10.91 meters. Teammate
Holly Lauzon was right behind her with a 10.83.
