Ben Koomey struck out 13 hitters over six innings of work while the Engineers three and four hitters went a combined 7-for-10 with five RBI and seven runs as the Rensselar Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team defeated the Skidmore College, 19-5, in the weekend series finale on Sunday in Troy. With the win, RPI improves to 9-6-1 on the season, while Skidmore falls to 10-5 on the year.
- RPI improves to 9-6-1 on the year and 1-2 in the Liberty League. Skidmore drops to 10-5 and 2-1.
- Engineer pitchers struck out 17 Thoroughbred hitters. Koomey punched out a baker's dozen while giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk over six quality innings on the hill.
- For Skidmore, Jackson Hornung had three hits, including a double, in five trips with a run and an RBI.
- Cameron Pedemonti was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored.
- RPI scored at least one run in each of the last five innings.
- Joey Saia was 4-for-4 for RPI with three RBI and three runs. He also walked and hit a sacrifice fly.
- Martin Marintchev scored four runs on a 3-for-6 day. All three of his hits were doubles as he finished with two RBI and a walk.
- Cole Paquin was 3-for-4 with RBI. His two-run home run in the fifth inning kicked off a six-run RPI rally. The Engineers scored six runs on four hits in the inning. Marintchev drove in two with a double down the third-base line in the inning.
- Zachary Leiderman was 2-for-2 off the Thoroughbred bench and hit a two-run single in the seventh.
- RPI got off to a quick start with three runs in the first and three more in the third to take a 6-0 lead.
- Pedemonti's homer made it 6-1 in the bottom of the third, but RPI's lead swelled to 12-1 with the big fifth inning.
