CANTON, N.Y. - After winning each of the three doubles matches, first-year students
Nikki Ridenour and
Sabrina Grewal won at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team defeated St. Lawrence University 5-4 in a Liberty League contest. The No. 36 Engineers improve to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Saints fall to 5-4 and 1-2.
Grewal gave RPI a 4-0 lead with a 7-6 (7), 6-1 win at No. 6 before St. Lawrence came back to make it a 4-2 match. Riddenour, who partnered with
Lorna Flores Gonzalez to win 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, clinched it for RPI by winning 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
The Engineers, who were in their first competition since March 9 while on Spring Break, host The College of New Jersey on Sunday at Tri-City Fitness (2pm).
