CLINTON, N.Y. -
Christine Mallette had a win and a runner-up,
Ashley Williams won the 10000 meters, and
Emma McGuinn captured the 100 Hurdles in record time to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational, a non team scoring meet.
Mallette, a sophomore, won the 200 meters in a time of 25.79 to defeat 34 other runners, including the second place finisher, Mackenzie Mix of Utica, who crossed in 25.83. It was Mix who won the 100 meters with Mallette finishing as the runner-up. They sprinted to times of 12.71 and 12.75, respectively, in the 29-competitor race.
In the five-person 10k, Williams, a sophomore, legged out a 42:11.57 to post a seven-second victory over Alexa Wolcott of SUNY Delhi (42:18.58).Â
McGuinn, who was fifth in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes, won the hurdles with a school record time of 14.94. She was first of 13 in the field with the second place finisher, Ejim Nnate of Oneonta, crossing in 15.32.
In addition to Mallette's runner-up effort,
Grace Richard also had a second in the discus with a throw of 33.84. It came on her third attempt as did the top throw by the first place finisher, Jane Fahy of Utica who reached 34.46. RPI'sÂ
Hannah Rogers was third of the 41 competitors with a maximum effort of 32.50 - also on her third attempt.
Finishing fourth for the Engineers were
Kelly Moran in the 400 Hurdles (1:14.86) and
Faydia Thompson in the 400 (1:03.22).
Summer Looney was fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:05.61.
