Megan Shay scored seven times while classmate
Rylie Maready scored twice and dished two assists as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team defeated Skidmore College by a final score of 15-12 at ECAV Stadium Wednesday night. With the win, RPI improves to 9-2 overall on the season and 4-2 in league play, while Skidmore falls to 6-6 and 2-5 in Liberty League action.
The Engineers got things going in the opening minute of the game, as their first clear attempt led them into a 2-on-1 rush with
Ella Graff tossing to
Lauren DeLeo on the back side for the easy goal to make it 1-0. Then
Megan Shay proceeded to score a hat trick in less than three minutes between the 12:15 mark and 9:52 mark to push RPI's lead to 4-0.
The Engineers scored in bunches around some Skidmore tallies, as a three-goal run capped by a goal from
Rylie Maready at the 10:06 mark of the second quarter gave RPI an 8-5 lead heading into halftime.
Skidmore battled throughout the third quarter and into the fourth, cutting RPI's lead to 12-10 with 9:48 to play after Julia Cafasso scored her fourth goal of the day to put Skidmore within striking distance. But another three-goal run tat began with a goal from Maready and two strikes from Shay pushed RPI's lead back to five with a 15-10 lead with 3:31 to play.
The Thoroughbreds scored twice in the final two minutes to bring the score back within a three-goal deficit, as the Engineers hung on for their ninth win of the season.
Shay added four draw controls and a trio of ground balls to her resume, while Maready added six draw controls, eight ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Four Engineers including Maready scored twice – as

Sophie Goddard, and DeLeo each chipped in a pair.
Olivia Kimball made 17 saves on the evening, a season-high for the netminder.
For Skidmore, Cafasso finished with six goals on the night, while Jillian Lockwood and Lily Hudner each scored a pair as well. Maddy Marr and Elizabeth Walsh also added goals, while Gabriella Modesti had two assists.
The Engineers return to action on Saturday, April 15 at 3 p.m. when they return to ECAV Stadium to take on St. Lawrence in Liberty League action.
