TROY, N.Y. – It was Friday Night Lights for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's and men's track & field teams, who hosted 10 other schools in its RPI Under the Lights Meet at Ned Harkness Track & Field. The Engineers saw numerous individuals collect wins on both sides and both squads came out victorious. RPI's women had 228 points with Hamilton in second (115) and Union in third (90), while the Rensselaer men compiled 241 points with Union as runner-up (88) and Castleton in third (70).
Josh Cohen captured the hammer, maxing out at 53.58, and the discus in 48.14, while
Grace Richard won the women's discus (35.79) with
Yasmine Elmady placing second (32.98).
Hannah Rogers,
Holly Lauzon, and Elmady went 1-2-3 in the women's hammer with Rogers winning at 41.25. Lauzon reached 40.59 and Elmady got to 38.82.
It was Lauzon who won the shot put (11.29) with Rogers finishing third (10.87), while Luke Alexander was second in the men's shot at 13.32.
RPI also had victories in the pole vault with James Zeolla winning the men's at 4.95 meters, which was .60 meters higher than Joey Hinckley, who was second (4.35).
Siri Walsh reached the highest in the women's (2.60) before she finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.31.
Owen Haas won the men's triple jump with a mark of 13.58, while Yathin Vemula was second in the high jump (1.85). The long jump included a second place finish by Robert Smith (6.72) and a third from Shawn Putman (6.51).
On the track,
Emma McGuinn was first in women's 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.86 after running a 14.72 in the prelims. Cortez Garrett was second in the 110 Hurdles, finishing in a time of 15.64. He ran a 15.56 to qualify. In the 400 Hurdles, Deen Ninche raced to second with a time of 1:00.79, while Evan Sweet was third in 1:03.09.
Eileen Beres won the women's 5000 (19:24.74) and Joey Smith won the men's in a time of 15:23.57. Teammate Jake Cooper was runner-up by four seconds (15:27.99).
Olivia Reid won the 1500 meters with a time under five minutes (4:59.33) and the Engineers had the top two finishers in the women's 200 meters in
Christine Mallette (26.40) and
Katie Manning (27.31). Manning also competed in the long jump and won with a distance of 4.95 meters.
Domenick Rayleonard was runner-up in the 400 meters with a time of 50.29 with teammate Caden Caron one place behind him (51.58) and the women's 800 included a second place finish by
Madison Perez with a finishing time of 2:24.90.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team of
Maeve Murphy,
Caitlin Smith,
Summer Looney, and
Katie Unger ran second with a time of 52.38.
