TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team swept their way through Bard College on Wednesday afternoon, as the Engineers defeated Bard by a final score of 9-0 at Sharp Courts. RPI improves their record to 10-2 overall as they earn their fifth straight win, while Bard falls to 2-10 this season.
Two separate Engineers took home 6-0, 6-0 victories as
Rani Jones did so at the No. 2 singles, while
Sabrina Grewal also did so at No. 5 singles. At the No. 1 spot,
Alex Mednikova won 6-1, 6-0 while
Brooke Bauer (6-2, 6-0) and
Masha Karach (6-0, 6-1) also took wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
Krisia Flores Gonzalez rounded out the sweep in singles, taking a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, the Engineers came out with a pair of 8-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, as Jones and Mednikova combined for the victory at the No. 2 spot while Grewal and
Krisia Flores Gonzalez did so at the No. 3 spot. At the No. 1 doubles spot,
Nikki Ridenour and
Lorna Flores Gonzalez came through with an 8-1 win.
RPI returns to action on Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m. when they play host to Skidmore College at Sharp Courts.
