Maready Sets Mark, Women’s Lax Win at Vassar

Senior Breaks Single-Game Draw Control Record

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team exploded with big numbers in the box score, as senior Rylie Maready collected a new single-game record of 19 draw controls and Megan Shay cored seven goals as they defeated Vassar College by a final score of 21-11 Friday evening. RPI improves to 7-2 overall and 2-2 in league play on the season, while Vassar falls to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in Liberty League play.
 
Vassar opened the game with a 5-3 lead just five minutes into the game, as both sides were pushing on offense early. In a span of eight seconds at the 9:09 and 9:01 marks of the first quarter, both Maready and Megan Shay scored to tie the game at 5-all before Quinn Wollard scored to give RPI the lead at the 7:50 mark.
 
Reilly Mulcahy scored a goal with 2:41 left in the opening frame for Vassar, putting the score 6-6 after the first 15 minutes. From the start of the second quarter, RPI ran off a 10-0 run from the 11 minute mark in the second quarter until 13:43 left in the third quarter. The run was capped by a goal from Lisa Boehmer to make it 16-6 in favor of the Engineers.
 
Vassar broke the streak with a goal with 9:20 to play in the third quarter, and from that point saw both sides trade goals throughout the rest of the quarter.
 
In the fourth quarter, both sides scored two goals apiece as the Engineers reached 21 goals as Shay scored her seventh goal of the game to make it 21-9 in favor of RPI. Vassar added a pair of goals down the stretch as the clock winded down for the Engineers win.
 
Shay finished with seven goals to lead the offense, while Quinn Wollard added five goals. Ella Graff  dished out seven assists, while Boehmer scored a hat trick as well. Maready added two goals with her 19 draw controls, as Olivia Kimball made six saves in earning the win.
 
Maddy Kretten scored four goals to lead Vassar, as seven others scored a goal as well. Annue Uyeki and Kateri Sanseviro each added two assists to their one goals for three points on the game.
 
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m. when they face off against Bard College on the road in Liberty League play.
