CHESTER, Pa. - Matt Lecky broke his own school record in the 1500,
Jillian Lees ran the third best 800 time in program history, and
Nia Goddard had the fifth best in the 5000 meters as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's and men's track & field teams had six top 10 finishes at the Widener University Final Qualifier.
A senior, Lecky ran the men's 1500 meters in 3:44.23 to finish second overall among the 100 runners, though first among those who were attached. His previous mark of 3:44.27 was set a month ago at the Bucknell University Bison Outdoor Classic. He was one of six from the Engineers in the event, four of whom came in under four minutes. Cory Kennedy ran a 3:52.55 to finish 15th (11th unattached), Brandon Marks had a 3:58.08 for 41st and Joey Smith ran a 3:59.29 and finished 44th.
Lees, also a senior, ran a 2:18.48 in the women's 800 to set a personal record, while Goddard, her classmate, went 17:17.25 in the women's 5000 for a PR and a 10th place finish among the field of 25. Among those attached, she was fourth and Lees was 10th.
Rensselaer had eight who raced in the men's 5000 meters and five finished in the top 20, led by Vincent Simonetti in fifth with a time of 14:18.22. Only .77 behind him was teammate Jason Gibbons in sixth and four spots later was Mitchell Dailey in 14:27.01. Connor Wooding was 12th (14:37.39) and Davis Piercy was 17th (14:44.00). Without the unattached runners, RPI had the second, third, fourth, sixth, and ninth place finishers among their top five.
Placing fifth overall and fourth attached in the 3000 Steeplechase was Patrick Smyth, who ran a 9:24.33 in the 10-person race.
