Nia Goddard and Vincent Simonetti both established personal records in their respective 10000 meters while representing Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at the 2023 NCAA Track & Field Championships hosted by St. John Fisher University.
Goddard, a senior, ran a 35:29.15 to best her previous mark by 24 seconds and set a new school record by 19 seconds. Her best 400 meter split was her last, which she clocked at 1:20.33, and she finished 11th of the 22 competitors. She entered the race seeded 14th.
A sophomore, Simonetti placed 16th after entering at 22nd. He finished in a time of 29:40.94, including a last 400 of 1:06.11. His previous PR was 19 seconds more than what he ran on the track at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex (29:59.95).
