TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes
Matt Lecky and
Davis Piercy have been selected to 2022-23 Academic All-America men's track & field/cross country teams as selected by the College Sports Communicators, it has been announced. It is the second year being honored for Lecky, both on the First Team, while Piercy, a Second Team choice, earned his initial award.
A senior distance runner, Lecky (Middletown, CT / Middletown) earned four All-America certificates this past year, including one in cross country, two in indoor track, and one in outdoor. He was 11th at the national cross country meet in the fall, seventh in the 3000 meters at the Division III Indoor Championship and part of the fifth-place indoor distance medley relay squad in March. Lecky went on to place third in the nation in the outdoor 1500 to give him seven career All-America honors, which is second in school history. A captain who set numerous school records, he was the Liberty League Runner of the Year in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track, repeating in cross country and indoor. He was also the Mideast Region Male Track Athlete of the Year in indoor.
A chemistry major with a 3.96 cumulative grade point average, Lecky was a multiple Liberty League All-Academic and Dean's Honor List honoree. He was a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon, Rensselaer's chemistry honor society, who performed chemistry research and development and interned at Dyno Nobel Inc.
Piercy (Kennett Square, PA / Kennett), also a senior distance runner, completed his undergraduate career with a 3.82 cumulative grade point average as a computer & systems engineering major. He earned multiple Liberty League All-Academic and Dean's Honor List accolades.
In competition, he was a two-time All-America after helping distance medley relay teams to seventh and fifth place finishes at the 2022 and 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships, respectively. He also helped the cross country team to three conference titles and three NCAA Championship appearances. Piercy also helped RPI's outdoor team to victory at the the 2021 and 2023 conference meets.
