WSOC Rides Unbeaten Streak, Ties St. Lawrence

Engineers Battle to Scoreless Draw with Saints

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team met up with their first Liberty League opponent on Saturday afternoon, hosting St. Lawrence at ECAV Stadium. Both sides battled, playing to a scoreless draw. The Engineers move their unbeaten streak to seven games, bringing them within a game from tying their longest streak since 2002.

RPI had chances early, as Bryanna Swinson rang a shot off the cross bar early in the first half.  That would be the best chance from either side in the opening 45, as the Engineers held St. Lawrence to just one shot on goal. At the end of the first half, the game remained scoreless.

Things remained tight through the start of the second half. Lily Pleau gave St. Lawrence a chance in the second half, putting one just over the crossbar for the Saints in the 62nd minute. Zoe Rogan then had a chance for the Saints in the 69th minute, only to be turned away by goalkeeper Megan Wampner changing off her line and making a sliding grab on the shot.

The third and final chance for St. Lawrence resulted in a team save for the Engineers with just over 10 minutes remaining, keeping things scoreless.

Wampner finished with three saves in net for the Engineers, while Keeley Snode made seven saves for St. Lawrence. Gwen Barnes collected five shots for RPI, while Pleau and Mia Cence each had two shots apiece for the Saints.

RPI returns to action on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. when they hit the road to take on Springfield College.
