SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -
Megan Wampner stopped all six shots she faced and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team scored both of its goals in the first half on its way to defeating Springfield College 2-0 in a non-league game. With the victory, the Engineers are now 5-0-3, marking the team's best start since the 2002 season (8-0-0). The Pride fall to 3-2-2.
A senior, Wampner had four first half saves and two in the second to register a clean sheet. Taryn Ryan and Mallory Forgatch both had single saves on the other end.
RPI got on the board in the fourth minute when
Bryanna Swinson finished a feed from
Rachel Borra. The visitors doubled their advantage 15 minutes later when
Gwen Barnes connected with
Haley Cole, who registered her third goal of the campaign. For Barnes, the assist was her third - which is second to Borra's four - and the point was her 15th, which leads the team.
