Women’s Hockey Ties RIT to Conclude Weekend

Skoda Scores First Collegiate Goal in Draw with Tigers

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team collected their second 1-1 draw in as many games with the RIT Tigers from Houston Field House on Sunday afternoon. Both RPI and RIT move to 0-0-2 on the season through the opening weekend.

After both sides played to a scoreless first period, RPI jumped ahead in the second. For the second straight game, a newcomer for the Engineers was able to put one home as freshman Morgann Skoda tapped in a goal on a pass from Riena Jahnke at the 5:55 mark to put RPI ahead 1-0. Also earning an assist on the play was Sabrina Beaudoin. Jahnke found Skoda on a back door pass, with Skoda finishing just inside the left post.

The score remained 1-0 until the 4:27 mark of the third period, as RIT evened things up on a goal from Addie Alvarez. She was able to put the puck past Amanda Rampado on a shot from the slot to bring things even to 1-1. Jordyun Bear and Jaidan Fahrny each assisted on the play.

Neither side could score down the stretch, with both goaltenders coming up with big saves and both defenses holding strong. Neither side took a penalty in the third period or overtime as both sides did not score the rest of the way.

Amanda Rampado turned away 35 shots for RPI in net. Marah Wagner led the way offensively with eight shots for the Engineers, with Ellie Kaiser and Maddy Papineau each collecting four shots apiece.

Emma Pickering added six shots for the Tigers, while goaltender Sarah Coe made 33 total saves.

The Engineers return to action next Friday, Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. when they return to the Houston Field House to take on Stonehill College.
