Women’s Hockey Takes 1-0 Victory Over Stonehill

Engineers Snag First Victory of the 2023-24 Season Saturday

TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team jumped into the win column for the first time in the 2023-24 season, as the Engineers topped the Stonehill Skyhawks by a final score of 1-0 at the Houston Field House Friday night. With the win, RPI improves to 1-0-2, while Stonehill falls to 0-1-0 in the young season.

The win makes RPI unbeaten through their first three games of the season for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, when the Engineers went 2-0-2 over their first four games of the season.

The Engineers broke through with the opening goal at 13:51 of the first period, as Nina Christof unleashed a wrist shot from the slot, clanking the crossbar and into the net to give RPI the 1-0 lead. Sophia Jones and Audrey McCutcheon each added assists on the play.

Christof's goal stood as the only tally of the game, as both sides played scoreless through the end of the third period. RPI's Amanda Rampado and Stonehill's Hanna Zukow each kept things at bay through the final buzzer in net for each team. Isabelle Hardy and Andrea Trnková led all skaters with four shots apiece on the night.

RPI returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 30 at 3 p.m. when they host Stonehill for round two of the weekend from Houston Field House.
