GENEVA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team battled their way in the second day of action at the ITA Northeast Regional held at William & Smith, as the Engineers came out with a pair of wins on the day between singles and doubles play.
The lone doubles pairing for the Engineers of
Lorna Flores Gonzalez and
Nicole Ridenour began the day with a one-sided 8-1 victory in the quarterfinals to move into the semifinal round. However, the pairing fell in a tightly contested matchup with Dakota Fordham and Isabella Hartman from NYU by a final score of 8-7 (6).
In singles play, Ridenour was the lone player of three in the field for the Engineers that came up with a win. In the Round of 16, Ridenour took home a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hamilton's Hannah Walpole to move into the quarterfinal round. Ridenour met up with Jimena Menendez from NYU, and took the first game 6-1. Menendez then came up with wins in the final two games, 6-3, 12-10 to take the match over the RPI sophomore.
Flores Gonzalez and
Prisha Rapur each competed in singles play for the Engineers on Sunday, each falling in the Round of 16. Both took their matches in the round to three games, with Flores using a clutch 7-6 (4) win in her second game to push things to a third.
The Engineers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. when they host New Paltz for their final dual match of the fall season.
