TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Reece Keating made a great first impression at the Houston Field House on Saturday afternoon, as she collected a 17-save shutout in her collegiate debut while the RPI offense broke open for a 7-0 victory over the Stonehill Skyhawks.
RPI notched three goals in the opening period, as
Nina Christof,
Isabelle Hardy, and
Ellie Kaiser each scored to give the Engineers a 3-0 lead after the opening period. Christof and Kaiser both scored on assisted plays, while Hardy scored her first goal in red on an unassisted play after picking up the puck on a turnover behind the net.
The first-year goal train continued in the second period when freshman
Georgia Bailey scored her first goal in college on a feed from
Nyah Philip on an odd-player rush just 1:23 into the middle frame to push the lead to 4-0. Her goal marked the fourth newcomer to score so far this season.
Christof scored her second of the game in short-handed fashion, as the Engineers were on the penalty kill. She scored on a pass from
Sabrina Beaudoin to make it 5-0 RPI.
Kaiser also added a second goal in the third period, while
Mika Jahnke scored her first goal of the season to cap the scoring for the Engineers, who performed well in front of Keating to secure the win. In total, RPI had 48 shots on net – their highest total on the season so far.
The Engineers return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. EST when they head to Minnesota to take on Bemidji State for a pair of games.
