ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's tennis team kicked off their season on the right foot, taking down Hartwick College by a 9-0 final score on the road in their opening match of the 2023-24 season.
RPI was strong out of the gate, sweeping through doubles play as the Engineers only surrendered four total points to the Hawks. Both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles pairings came out with 8-1 wins, while
Prisha Rapur and
Lina Krumpel took an 8-2 win at #2 doubles. At No. 1,
Nicole Ridenour and
Lorna Flores Gonzalez paired for the win, while
Krisia Flores Gonzalez and
Brooke Bauer were victorious at No. 3.
In singles play,
Lorna Flores Gonzalez shined at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 straight victory over Hartwick's Ryann Ashby. Bauer and
Krisia Flores Gonzalez also had one-sided matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, while Rapur and Krumpel also did their jobs at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Rounding out the action was
Nicole Ridenour at No. 1 singles, as she took home a 6-1, 6-4 win from the top spot.
RPI returns to action on Friday, Sept. 15 at 3:30 p.m. from Sharp Courts as they host Oneonta in their first home match of the season.
