TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team gave up a late goal with 3:57 remaining in the third period as they fell to the Harvard Crimson by a final score of 2-1 at the Houston Field House Friday night.
After a scoreless opening period and scoreless first half of the second, an RPI penalty kickstarted the Harvard scoring. Just three second after the puck drop from the penalty, the Crimson scored on a wrist shot on the power play from Gabi Davidson Adams with assists to Shannon Hollands and Paige Lester. The goal gave Harvard the 1-0 lead.
RPI found the response late in the second period, as
Maddy Papineau collected a goal off a rebound to tie the game at 1-1. Standing on the back post, a puck slid her way with the play on the other side of the net and tapped home the equalizer. Andrea Trnkova and
Isabelle Hardy each earned assists on the goal.
As things continued to stand 1-1 well into the third period, the Crimson broke through with the game-winner with just under four minutes to play courtesy of Paige. She danced through a couple RPI defenfers, and sent in a wrist shot as she fell forwards to sneak the puck inside the left post for a 2-1 lead that held through the final horn.
Emily Davidson made 25 saves in the win for Harvard, while
Amanda Rampado made 20 for RPI.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. when they take on Dartmouth at home in the Houston Field House.
