TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball came out strong to start their weekend of Liberty League action, collecting 10 three-pointers and led start to finish as they defeated the RIT Tigers by a final score of 63-44 at ECAV Arena Friday evening.
RPI outscored the Tigers in the first half 28-19, as
Siena Smith and
Tyler Hormazabal combined for 17 of RPI's 28 points to give the Engineers the lead at the midway point. Both sides struggled from long distance in the second quarter, while RPI made their half with four three-pointers in the first quarter to help build their lead.
In the second half, Smith continued her strong play both scoring and distributing. She finished the game with team-highs in every category, going for 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, three steals, and three blocks. RPI regained their strong shooting behind the arc, finishing with six threes in the second half – giving them 10 on the game.
Danielle Strauf also added 14 points for the Engineers, while Hormazabal finished with 11 on the night. For RIT, Emma Waite finished with 17 points and four assists for the Tigers.
RPI returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 27 when they host Skidmore at ECAV Arena at 2 p.m.
