TROY, N.Y.- Sophie Helgeson of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team scored 1:47 into overtime to give the Engineers a 2-1 win over visiting Syracuse today in Houston Field House.

Helgeson one-timed home a feed from Sabrina Beaudoin in the early moments of the extra period, which was required after a late third-period equalizer by Syracuse.

Following a scoreless 53 minutes, Andrea Trnkova gave RPI a 1-0 lead when she converted a delayed penalty opportunity midway through the third.

The Engineers would maintain the slim margin into the closing minutes of the third, however Peyton Armstrong would register a tally with 77 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.

RPI goaltender Maelee Ambrass stopped 22-of-23 shots to record her second victory of the weekend.

Looking ahead, the Engineers will next head to Rochester to face RIT in a pair of contests on Thursday and Friday.
