TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team finished its weekend series against Sacred Heart with a 4-0 shutout over the Pioneers this evening in Houston Field House.
Morgann Skoda and
Georgia Bailey each recorded two goals to help lead the Engineers to the victory.Â
Bailey struck first for RPI five minutes into the first period, as she punched in a close-range attempt following passes from
Nina Christof and
Sophie Helgeson.Â
Skoda doubled the margin halfway through the second when she used an
Audrey McCutcheon screen in front of the Pioneer net to snap a wrist shot past goaltender Jillian Petruno.Â
Skoda and Bailey each struck for power-play goals in the final five minutes of the third period to cap the RPI scoring.Â
Helgeson tallied two assists on the night, giving her a multi-point effort in her RPI debut.
Natalie Tulchinsky,
Sabrina Beaudoin,
Nina Christof,
Taylor Larsen, and
Andrea Trnkova provided one assist each as well.Â
Helgeson, Larsen, Trnkova and the rest of the Engineers defense were stout in front of RPI netminder
Reese Keating, as Keating only needed to make 11 saves to earn her second shutout of the season. RPI held a 66-19 overall advantage in the shot column in the triumph.
The Engineers will look ahead to next weekend's home-and-home with Syracuse. RPI heads west on Friday before returning to host the Orange on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
