MIAMI, Ohio- Jakob Lee of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey scored 29 seconds into overtime to give the Engineers a 3-2 non-conference victory at Miami University this evening.
Lee's game-winner capped a comeback effort for the Engineers, who faced a 2-1 deficit after the first period.
RPI had led 1-0 on Felix Caron strike in the opening 10 minutes, however Miami would respond 19 seconds later to quickly equalize.
The Redhawks struck again in the last minute of the first period to take a one-goal advantage into the first intermission.
Trailing by one, Jagger Tapper worked with Jeremie Payant to tie things up for the Engineers with seven minutes gone in the second.
The Tapper score would be the final goal from either side through regulation, setting up the winner for Lee in OT.
Noah Giesbrecht made 20 saves in the net, as the Engineers held Miami scoreless for the final 41 minutes of the game.
Elliott McDermott had two assists, including a helper on Lee's overtime goal. John Beaton, Will Gilson, and Payant logged one assist each as well.
The two sides will be back inside Class of 1965 Arena tomorrow night to finish the weekend series at 7:00 pm.
