COBLESKILL, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Women's basketball team battled SUNY Cobleskill into overtime today.
The Engineers overcame a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force the extra session, however Cobleskill out scored RPI 12-8 over the five-minute overtime to earn the narrow win.
Siena Smith tallied 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting to top the Engineers offensively. In addition to her career-best scoring day, Smith also registered eight rebounds, five assists, four steals, and one block in a strong all-around effort.
Callie Flynn and Julia Rowe provided double-digit performances as well, as the duo finished with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Flynn also matched Smith with eight boards.
Trailing 64-50 entering the fourth quarter, RPI would rally to score 26 of the next 36 points to take a two-point lead with 2:34 remaining.
After the two sides traded the lead down the stretch, Smith sunk a pair of free throws to put the Engineers ahead 80-78 with 10 seconds remaining, but the Tigers would convert two free throws of their own following a foul call with two ticks left on the clock to necessitate the overtime.
Antonia May scored five of her game-high 30 points in the OTÂ to help guide Cobleskill to the non-conference victory.
The Engineers will look ahead to the VTSU Castleton Spartan Classic, which will see RPI head to Castleton, VT for a contests on Friday and Saturday of this upcoming weekend.
