CASTLETON, VT- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team began play the VTSU Castleton Spartan Classic with a 76-59 triumph against Hartwick.
Amanda Gallagher and Emilia Rojik had 10 points each to lead a scoring effort that featured nine Engineers tally at least five points. Gallagher also had a game-high nine rebounds.
RPI outscored Hartwick 41-24 in the first half thanks to 58 percent (10-of-17) shooting by the Engineers in the second quarter.
The RPI lead would peak at 33 in the fourth quarter after the Engineers owned 29 of the first 42 points following halftime.
Marley Mueller logged eight points, while Brooke Boyle and Molly Libby had seven points apiece. The trio of Ashlyn O'Neil, Tyler Hormazabal, and Callie Flynn contributed six points each, and Siena Smith finished with five.
The final day of the Spartan Classic will see the Engineers challenge the University of Maine-Farmington at 1:00 pm.
