Women’s Hockey Erases Two-Goal Deficit to Force OT with Union

TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's ice hockey team erased a two-goal deficit to force overtime against Union today, however the visiting Garnet Chargers scored with over a minute left in the extra session to earn the 3-2 ECAC victory in Houston Field House.

The Engineers were forced to play from behind early thanks to a pair of Union goals in the opening stages of the first period. The Garnet Chargers scored three minutes into the first and doubled the margin to 2-0 at 8:42.

Aylah Cioffi got RPI going less 90 seconds after Union's second goal, as she deposited a pass from Georgia Bailey from close range.

The score would remain 2-1 for the next 30 minutes until Morgann Skoda went five-hole on Union goaltender Sophie Matsoukas less than one minute gone in the third.

Skoda used a long pass up ice from Magdalena Erbenova before putting the moves on Matsoukas. RPI goalie Reese Keating was also credited with an assist on the game-tying.

Each squad would put two shots on goal in the overtime before Paige Greco scored the game-winner on a breakaway.

Keating totaled 28 saves on the afternoon, with 24 saves coming in her 55-minute scoreless stretch from the Garnets Charger's second and third goals.

RPI will look be back in action on Sunday with a 7:00 pm home meeting versus Assumption.
