TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team controlled the final three quarters of play in tonight's 57-48 season-opening victory against Plattsburgh State.
The Engineers trailed by nine after the opening 10 minutes, however RPI would awake from its slow start to outscore the Cardinals by a 45-27 margin over the final three quarters.
Callie Flynn topped the Engineers with 13Â points in the home triumph. The freshman finished 6-of-10 from the field and also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Siena Smith and Amanda Gallagher also landed in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Emilia Rojik added eight points and six rebounds as well.
Plattsburgh established its early advantage courtesy of 8-of-15 shooting from the floor in the first quarter, but the Engineers would limit the visitors to only five made field goals on their next 35 shot attempts.
RPI led by as much as 14 in the fourth quarter before a mini-rally by Plattsburgh got the margin back to single digits. With momentum sliding towards the guests, Market Mueller hit a top-of-the-key three and Gallagher nailed a jumper to extend the margin back to safe territory.
The Engineers flip around to face SUNY Potsdam, who is in town for a 2:00 pm tip tomorrow in ECAV Arena.
