Engineers Utilize Stout Defense To Claim 63-44 Win Versus SUNY Potsdam

TROY, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball team pulled away for a 63-44 win versus SUNY Potsdam today in ECAV Arena.

Sydney Blaney had a team-high 10 points, as she topped a balanced scoring effort that saw seven different Engineers finish with six or more points.

Siena Smith and Emilia Rojik logged eight points apiece, while Tyler Hormazabal, Callie Flynn, and Amanda Gallagher produced seven points each. Molly Libby was 2-for-2 from deep to add six points as well.

After the first half ended with the two sides deadlocked at 25-25, the Engineers rode their strong defense to the non-conference win.

The Engineers finished with 17 steals, including three each from Flynn, Gallagher, and Sophie Costello. Flynn also led all players with eight rebounds and four blocks.

RPI generated 28 points off Potsdam turnovers, tallied 16 second chance points, and held the Bears to only five made field goals across the third and fourth quarters.

The Engineers will look to continue their hot start to the season on Wednesday against the United States Coast Guard Academy. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30pm in ECAV Arena.
