RPI Secures First Liberty League Win at St Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's basketball began Liberty League play with a 73-65 win at St. Lawrence this evening.

Amanda Gallagher registered 19 points, three rebounds, two assists, and three blocks in a strong all-around effort. Siena Smith also provided RPI with 16 points, eight boards, three assists, and two steals.

The Engineers forced St. Lawrence into a rough shooting night, as the hosts shot less than 30 percent from the floor in each of the four quarters.

RPI finished the first half with a 35-29 lead after limiting the Saints to just 10 made field goals on 37 shot attempts in the opening 20 minutes. The Engineers trailed by seven midway through the second; but scored 14 of the last 15 points of the quarter to earn the halftime advantage.

Both sides posted big runs in a seesaw third quarter, starting with a St. Lawrence rally to tie things up midway through the stanza before RPI manufactured a response to go into the fourth quarter ahead by five.

Gallagher and Smith sealed the deal for the Engineers down the stretch, as the pair combined for 13 of RPI's 21 points in the final 10 minutes.

Molly Libby and Julia Rowe aided the Engineer offense with seven points each, with Rowe also contributing eight boards and four assists.

Libby, Ashlyn O'Neil, and Marley Mueller grabbed three rebounds apiece, while Tyler Hormazabal dished out a team-leading eight helpers.

The Engineers will stay up north to take on Clarkson at 2:00 pm tomorrow.
