POTSDAM, N.Y.- The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's basketball team won its eighth consecutive contest with a 71-56 victory at Clarkson today.
Dylan Matchett shot 6-of-9 from the field for a team-high 14 points for the Engineers.
Andrew Deppe tallied 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, and
PJ Scalisi made 5-of-8 attempts for 11 points. Deppe also grabbed five boards, while Scalisi added four rebounds and three assists.
Avery Eugster finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while
Nate Tawiah-Boateng provided six points, three boards, and three helpers.
RPI led by six following a back-and-forth first half that saw the two sides exchange the lead five different times in the opening 20 minutes. From there, the Engineers shot 68 percent (13-of-19) in the second half to pull away from their Liberty League rivals. Matchett and Deppe combined for 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting after halftime.
The Engineers are off to their best start since the 2021-22 campaign, which also featured RPI winnings its first eight games to start the season. The Engineers will take advantage of the holiday break before facing SUNY Canton on Sunday, December 29.
