TROY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team brought the No. 6 Cornell Big Red to the brink on Friday evening, as the Engineers held the Big Red without a goal through 60 minutes before Cornell found an overtime winner in a 1-0 loss for RPI.
Both sides played scoreless through all three periods of play, as the goaltenders shone bright over the 60 minutes of regulation. The Engineers tested Cornell's Annelies Bergmann to the tune of 19 shots on the night, including multiple shots among five power play opportunities. RPI's
Amanda Rampado faced much of the same, as she stopped all 22 shots in regulation.
With the game in overtime, both sides battled until Cornell found the game-winner with just 1:42 left to play in the extra frame. Lily Delianedis tossed a puck pass Rampado, giving the Big Red the slim 1-0 victory. Karel Prefontaine and Rory Guilday earned assists on the play.
RPI returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. when they take on Colgate in Hamilton.
