HAMILTON, N.Y. – For the second straight day, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team had a top team in the nation against the ropes headed to the third period. Despite a 54-save effort from graduate student goaltender
Amanda Rampado, the Engineers fell by a final score of 2-0 to the No. 4 Colgate Raiders on the road.
Things remained scoreless through two periods of play as Rampado held the Raiders at bay through the first 40 minutes. However midway through the third, Colgate's Emma Pais found the back of the net on a wrist shot from the slot to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The Engineers did not break the rest of the period, as they had a late push of shots in the offensive zone after pulling Rampado for an extra attacker. Despite multiple attempts to tie the game, Pais ended up with the puck with nobody in front of her as she collected the empty net goal to seal the win for Colgate.
RPI returns to action next Friday, Feb. 16 as they play host to Quinnipiac at Houston Field House at 6 p.m.
